2. Cut the Watermelon in Half

Place the watermelon on a cutting board. Using a large, sharp knife, cut the watermelon in half lengthwise. If the watermelon is particularly large, you might want to cut it into quarters for easier handling.

3. Cut Each Half into Quarters

If you haven’t already, cut each half of the watermelon into quarters by slicing lengthwise again. You should now have four manageable sections.

4. Remove the Rind

Take one of the quarters and place it flesh-side down on the cutting board. Carefully slice off the rind by cutting down along the curve of the watermelon, following the shape of the fruit. Repeat this for all quarters.

5. Cut into Slices

With the rind removed, place the watermelon flesh flat on the cutting board. Cut it into slices about 1-inch thick. If you prefer smaller cubes, you can make the slices thinner.

6. Cut into Cubes

Turn the slices 90 degrees and cut them again to create strips. Then, turn the strips 90 degrees and cut across to form cubes. Repeat this process with all the watermelon quarters.

7. Transfer to a Bowl

Transfer the watermelon cubes to a large bowl or container. They are now ready to serve or store in the refrigerator for later use.

Tips for Best Results

  • Use a Sharp Knife: A sharp knife makes cutting easier and safer, giving you clean, precise cuts.
  • Work on a Stable Surface: Ensure your cutting board is stable to prevent slipping while cutting.
  • Refrigerate: Store any leftover watermelon cubes in an airtight container in the refrigerator. They can stay fresh for up to five days.
