Ingredients

For the Chai Spice Apple Filling

  • 10 cups apples (about 10 medium-sized apples), peeled and sliced into 1/4″ slices
  • 2 teaspoons fresh lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 and 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon allspice
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cardamom
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground black pepper

For the Oatmeal Chai Crisp Topping:

  • 8 ounces unsalted butter, at room temperature, cut into cubes
  • 1 and 1/2 cups old fashioned oats
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup light brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon allspice
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cardamom
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour

Instructions

For the Chai Spice Apple Filling:

  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees (F). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  • Place the sliced apples in a large bowl and toss with the lemon juice.
  • In a medium bowl, combine the flour, sugar, and spices. Sprinkle this mixture over the apples and toss well to coat.
  • Pour apple mixture into prepared baking dish and set aside while you make the crumb topping
